Welcome to Fairmount Fire Department

The 100% Volunteer Protective Company #1 of the Fairmount Fire Department was formed in 1942 to cover the rapidly growing southeastern portion of The Town of Camillus. Located inside of Onondaga County in Central New York, Fairmount is located five miles west of the City of Syracuse, and is a proud member of Onondaga County's Western Section Line Officers Association. Being a suburb of Syracuse, Fairmount is a densely populated area consisting of single family homes, numerous multi-family apartment complexes, and several large Industrial and commercial business zones. Welcome to our website, and feel free to contact any of our members with questions or comments.

Mission Statement of the Fairmount Fire Department

It is the mission of the Fairmount Fire Department to protect the lives and property of the residents and visitors of our community from fire, medical emergencies and hazardous conditions created by man or nature. We will accomplish our mission through a professional commitment to fire prevention, education, and prompt effective delivery of emergency services. We will actively participate in our community, serve as role models, and utilize all necessary resources and training to adapt to the challenges of our evolving world while upholding the traditions of our forefathers with "Courage, Integrity, Pride and Honor."

 


 

Volunteers extinguish basement fire

At approximately 5pm Fairmount and mutual aid were alerted for the reported structure fire. Chiefs arrived to find smoke showing from the front of the structure. Fairmount Engine 7 arrived and stretched a crosslay to the basement and with Taunton Ladder 5 located and extinguished the room and contents fire. Truck 1 and Rescue 1 were also on scene along with mutual aid from Taunton, Solvay, Howlett Hill and Camillus. Car 1 had the command, Car 2 with operations.

Around 2115hrs Fairmount was alerted to Scott Ave for reported vehicle fire. Engine 6 was on scene within 2 minutes and advised an engine compartment fire about 3 feet from a house. 100ft of the 150ft bumper line was stretched and quick work was made of the fire. Some siding was melted but there was no extension to the structure. Engine 7, and all three chiefs were also on scene. Car 1 had the command.


 
Halloween Detail

The volunteers staffed two Engine Companies during the evening hours and traveled the district handing out candy to all the citizens of the first due. After about two and a half hours the crews called it a night and returned to quarters.

Saturday, October 29, 2011

On Saturday evening around 1800hrs Howlett Hill and mutual aid were alerted to Corporal Welch Rd for the report of a barn fire. The first arriving Howlett Hill chiefs advised of a fully involved barn fire. Truck one arrived second due and placed itself in the driveway of the residence behind HHFD Engine 3. Engine 6 was requested to the scene and arrived third due. The truck was positioned and set up for master stream operations. After operating for approx 3 hours both the engine and truck cleared. Engine 6 First Due to Camillus
Monday, August 15, 2011

Around 0730hrs Fairmount was alerted mutual aid to the area of Camillus Dr and West Genesee Rd in the Camillus fire district. Fairmount engine 6 went enroute with 5 volunteers and arrived first due with light smoke showing, securing its own water supply. The engine found a fire in the floor of a bedroom and extinguished the same within 5 minutes. Engine 7 was also on the scene. The engines cleared after 90 minutes.


 
Morning basement fire
Monday, June 27, 2011

Fairmount was activated for an engine for a reported basement fire on Parsons Rd. Fairmount Engine 6 Arrived with Camillus Engine 94 with nothing showing. Upon investigation the crews found an active basement fire and extinguished the same within 15 minutes. Fairmount Truck 1 was also requested and arrived 4th due completing ventilation as assigned.


 
Heavy fire from attached garage

During the evening of June 21st, Fairmount was alerted to Hornady Dr for numerous reports of an attached garage fire. Fairmount Car 1 arrived and reported a fully involved attached garage. Fairmount Engine 7 arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire. Taunton Ladder 5 assisted with extiguishment and ventilation


 
Heavy Fire from Taunton Structure
Friday, June 3, 2011

The afternoon of June 3rd, Fairmount truck 1 was activated for a reported garage fire on Abbe Dr in the Taunton fire district. Taunton Engine 6 and Ladder 5 were on scene shortly after dispatch advising of heavy fire from an attached garage. Two lines made an interior attack for a few minutes when command decided to move to defensive operations. Shortly after, units re-entered the structure and extinguished the remaining fire. Fairmount Truck 1 was assigned to the roof to ventilate the structure. This task was completed shortly before the decision to exit the structure. Fairmount volunteers maintained an additional 2 crews at the station while the truck operated for 2 hours


 
   
   
Motor Vehicle Collision

The afternoon of May 25th, Fairmount responded with Engine 94 to Taunton for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Engine 94 arrived behind Taunton Rescue 3 to find an elderly woman trapped after her vehicle flipped numerous times. 94 assisted both the Taunton crews and the patient was extricated and packaged within 10 minutes.


 
   
   
First Due Garage Fire
Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Mid day on May 10th, Fairmount and mutual aid was alerted for report of a first due garage fire on Juniper Ln. Fairmount Car-1 arrived and reported smoke showing. Fairmount had both engines on scene within 5 minutes and a line was stretched from both. Crews made quick work of the fire, knocking it down within 10 minutes. Ventilation and overhaul were completed and units cleared after 60 minutes.
