Welcome to Fairmount Fire Department

The 100% Volunteer Protective Company #1 of the Fairmount Fire Department was formed in 1942 to cover the rapidly growing southeastern portion of The Town of Camillus. Located inside of Onondaga County in Central New York, Fairmount is located five miles west of the City of Syracuse, and is a proud member of Onondaga County's Western Section Line Officers Association. Being a suburb of Syracuse, Fairmount is a densely populated area consisting of single family homes, numerous multi-family apartment complexes, and several large Industrial and commercial business zones. Mission Statement of the Fairmount Fire Department

It is the mission of the Fairmount Fire Department to protect the lives and property of the residents and visitors of our community from fire, medical emergencies and hazardous conditions created by man or nature. We will accomplish our mission through a professional commitment to fire prevention, education, and prompt effective delivery of emergency services. We will actively participate in our community, serve as role models, and utilize all necessary resources and training to adapt to the challenges of our evolving world while upholding the traditions of our forefathers with "Courage, Integrity, Pride and Honor."

 


 

Rescue Co. 1 to Solvay

After two reported fires yesterday which turned out to be nothing, Fairmount Rescue 1 was requested as the Rapid Intervention Team to 518 Woods Rd in the Solvay Fire District. Dispatched at 16:02hrs, Rescue 1 went enroute at 16:03 with 8  and was second due unit. Upon arrival, Rescue 1 pulled around Solvay Engine 22 which was hitting the hydrant. Rescue 1 pulled down a street directly on side A, and established a staging area for the RIT. Being second due, the team split. Four members did a full 360 degree check for hazards while the other four assisted Solvays engine crew with attack and overhaul. Command held with a signal 98 or minor fire. Fairmount assisted in picking up and cleared within 45 minutes.

At 23:18hrs Howlett Hill was activated for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Fairmount responded with Engine-94 with 6 volunteers. While going enroute county dispatch advised a van was on its side in the ditch with one male conscious and breathing. Engine-94 arrived first due and was advised by Howlett Hill Car 2 there was one to extricate. Fairmount went to work, splitting the crew, 3 members began extrication while 2 others worked on stabilization. The driver set up lights and assisted with stabilization. Once the vehicle was stabilized and hazards were addressed, one member stood by with the front bumper line and the other assisted with extrication. The vans roof was partially removed in order to gain enough access to remove the patient. The patient was packaged and removed within 10 minutes. Units picked up and the scene was turned over to Onondaga County Sheriffs Dept.


 
   
   
Howlett Hill Chimney Fire

On Wednesday morning Howlett Hill was activated for a reported chimney fire. The box calls for Truck 1 but since Fairmount had Engine-94 in service, both units went enroute within a minute of dispatch. Engine 94 arrived first due pulling past the structure to leave room for the truck. The engine crew stretched a crosslay as a precaution and enetered the residence to check for any extension. The engine crew encountered a light smoke condition inside the structure with an active chimney fire contained to the chimney. Upon entering the residence, Truck-1 arrived, splitting its crew sending two to the roof and three inside the structure to assist the engine. The truck extinguished the fire and cleaned out the creosote lining the chimney. Units cleaned up and cleared within 35 minutes.

Rescue 1 to Solvay

At 0241 hrs Fairmount Rescue 1 was requested mutual aid to Solvay as the RIT for a reported fire at 106 Abel ave. Rescue 1 went enroute within two minutes of dispatch and arrived second due with 8 volunteers. Upon arrival Fairmount ready all the necessary RIT equipment and advised command of the rit staging at the D - A corner. The crew split into two crews, one standing by witht he equipment, the other laddering 3 sides of the structure for the potential need for egress and also doin a 360 degree evaluation of the structure for any hazards. After mitigating some minor access issues, the crew once again stood by for potential deployment. Solvay, making a great agressive initial attack had the fire under control within a few minutes. Rescue 1 assisted with overhaul and cleared.


 
   
   
Vehicle Fire

At 11:14hrs, Onondaga County Fire Control dispatched Fairmount Engine 6 to a vehicle fire, in front of 108 Skyview terrace. Car 3 and E-6 went enroute simultaneously within a minute of dispatch. While enroute, P.D. advised the vehicle was fully envolved. Upon arrival, the E-6 stretched 100' of the front bumper line, and extinguished the '69 Corvette. C-3 held the alarm with himself and E-6. Units flushed the road to clear it of hazards and cleared within 30 minutes.

At 1910 hrs Fairmount and Taunton were alerted for an oven fire at Marks Pizzeria. Fairmount Engine-4 went on scene with nothing showing. E-4 stretched 100' of the 150' bumperline. Upon further investigation the OIC advised that there was a problem with an oven, but no fire and held with Engine-4. Taunton Engine-5 and Fairmount Truck-1 returned to service. At 1922hrs while Engine-4 was cleaning up, Taunton was activated for a reported fire at 4277 Onondaga Blvd. the box calls for truck-1. Still having a crew in house, Engine-4 and Truck-1 went enroute during dispatch. Taunton Engine-6 went onscene to report a signal-98 mulch fire and held with Taunton units only.

At 0106 hrs, Fairmount was alerted for a possible electrical fire with a burning odor. Engine-4 and Truck-1 went enroute at the same time. Units went on scene with nothing showing. Upon investigation a short in an electrical outlet was found. C-3 had command. Power was secured and units cleared as the power authority was enroute.

At 2318 units from Camillus, Memphis, Warners, Elbridge and Marcellus were activated for a reported garage fire at 2381 Rte 5. Fairmount, having 4 crews in house, was activated at 2324hrs with a request for E-6 to go to the scene. E-6 went enroute during dispatch. Fairmount was 3rd due and went to work, grabbing the high rise pack due to first arriving units crosslays failing to reach the fully involved garage. After attaching the high rise pack, Fairmount started to extinguish the detached garage with Camillus Engine-5 and Truck-8. Taunton Engine-6 was requested to stand by at Camillus station while units extinguished the fire and overhauled. While Engine-6 was working on the Camillus alarm, Engine-4 and Truck-1 ran alarms in Fairmounts first due.

8/9/09 - 1342 Hours. Fairmount was alerted to respond to the Camillus Fire District along with Marcellus, Howlett Hill, Warners, and Taunton for a reported fire in a bathroom at the Pine Grove Country Club on Milton Ave. Fairmount Car 3 (Isgar) was the first arriving Chief advised nothing showing. He was directed to a bathroom in the Bar area of the club and found a small fire and smoke condition. A ventilation fan motor in the ceiling had burned out and melted the plastic around it. Most of the fire was extinguished by an employee prior to arrival. Fairmount E-6 arrived and came straight assuming first due engine responsibilities. A water can was used to cool down the remainder of the area and ventilation was started on the building. Units cleared within 40 minutes.
