Welcome to Fairmount Fire Department

The 100% Volunteer Protective Company #1 of the Fairmount Fire Department was formed in 1942 to cover the rapidly growing southeastern portion of The Town of Camillus. Located inside of Onondaga County in Central New York, Fairmount is located five miles west of the City of Syracuse, and is a proud member of Onondaga County's Western Section Line Officers Association. Being a suburb of Syracuse, Fairmount is a densely populated area consisting of single family homes, numerous multi-family apartment complexes, and several large Industrial and commercial business zones. Mission Statement of the Fairmount Fire Department

It is the mission of the Fairmount Fire Department to protect the lives and property of the residents and visitors of our community from fire, medical emergencies and hazardous conditions created by man or nature. We will accomplish our mission through a professional commitment to fire prevention, education, and prompt effective delivery of emergency services. We will actively participate in our community, serve as role models, and utilize all necessary resources and training to adapt to the challenges of our evolving world while upholding the traditions of our forefathers with "Courage, Integrity, Pride and Honor."

 


 

Reported Electrical Fire

Around 2320hrs, Fairmount along with Taunton Ladder 5 were alerted for the reported electrical fire. Car-3 went on scene and reported an small active fire in the wall of the structure. Engine-7 arrived, stretched a line and grabbed a few water cans. Upon investigation with the Thermal Imaging Camera, all fire was out with one water can. No electrical damage was seen, but improper disposal of cigarettes was noted. Units onscene were Fairmount Engine 7, Truck 1, and Taunton Ladder 5. Fairmount Car-3 had Command and Taunton Car-3 had operations. Units cleared within half an hour.

Bunk In Training

With this being the first year of Fairmounts Bunk In program, there has been an incredible amount of training occuring the past few weeks. Some of the members have taken advantage of the additional opportunities to train. One of Tuesdays topics was ground ladders. Throughout the day, there was a total of approximately 7 hours of training to attend.


 
   
   
Reported Fire

Monday night, just before midnight Fairmount, along with mutual aid was alerted for the report of smoke in the basement. With a crew in house, Engine 7 went enroute with 6 volunteers during dispatch. Within 2 minutes of Engine 7 responding, Truck 1 and Engine 6 were on the road. Upon arrival, Engine 7 was given a report of a heavy smoke condition in the basement by PD. A crosslay was stretched and upon investigation, a charred closet and electrical panel were found. After completing ventilation, the structure was turned over to National Grid. Units cleared approximately 45 minutes after arrival. Car-1 had command.

At 12:29hrs, Fairmount Rescue was dispatched to a MVC, with unknown injuries infront of Midas on West Genesee St. Chiefs arrived and updated the location to Carols Polar Parlor. Rescue 1 went enroute and arrived to find two vehicles, with airbags deployed. All assengers were out of their vehicles upon arrival, with no reported injuries. The crew went to work securing hazards. The Mutual aid Engine 94 from Howlett Hill also arrived to assist.


 
Rescue Extricates 2

Around 0400hrs, Fairmount was alerted for a reported vehicle into a building. Car-1 arrived and confirmed dispatch advising two patients trapped. Rescue 1 arrived, stabilized the vehicle, popped both doors and removed the roof of the vehicle. Car-1 specialed in Taunton Rescue 3 to assist in patient packaging as the rescues crew was extricating the patients. Shortly after requesting mutual aid, Engine 6 went enroute. Taunton Rescue stretched a handline and assisted in packaging.  Patients were packaged and given to awaiting ambulances for transport to the regional trauma center. Motor Vehicle Collision
Monday, July 26, 2010

The afternoon of July 26th Fairmount was alerted for a motor vehicle collision on Onondaga Rd near Westholm Blvd. Engine 7 was out on a detail and went enroute during dispatch. Rescue 1 went enroute shortly after. Cars 2 and 3 arrived and advised units there was a two vehicle accident with everyone out of both vehicles. Solvay Rescue 1 was on the air and after speaking with Car 2 was requested to assist. Upon arrival, Engine 7's crew split, addressing hazards of both vehicles while the other team started evaluating the 10 patients. A second ambulance was requested and while waiting arrival of the 2 ambulances, Crews from Fairmount and Solvay stabilized the vehicles, addressed hazards, assisted with packaging of 4. All units cleared within 40 minutes


 
   
   
Fairmount Extricates Two

Wednesday 7/21 Fairmount was alerted to Seneca Turnpike in Howlett Hills district for the reported 3 car Motor vehicle collision. First arriving unit was a returning ambulance and confirmed dispatch advising 6 patients to evaluate with two of them trapped. Howlett Hill rescue and Fairmount Engine 94 arrived together. Engine 94's crew split into two teams, stretching a line, addressing hazards and popping 2 doors while HHFD stabilized the vehicles. Extrication was complete in 5 minutes. All patients were evaluated and 2 were transported with minor injuries.Units cleared within 25 minutes


 
   
   
Reported Fire
Wednesday, June 30, 2010

The afternoon of June 30th, Fairmount along with mutual aid was alerted to the 200 block of Melrose ave for the reported house on fire. Car 1 went on scene with smoke showing from the B-C corner. E7 and T1 arrived and found fire on the outside of the structure from improper disposal of a cigarette. Car 1 held the assignment to the engine and truck. Units opened up to check for extension and cleared within 20 minutes.


 
   
   
Rescue 1 extricates two

At around 0900 hrs Fairmount was alerted for a motor vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Genesee St and Whedon Rd. First arriving units found a head on collision with 3 total patients, 2 of them requiring extrication. While extrication was being addressed, Car 1 requested Rescue 3 out of Taunton for assitance with packaging of the numerous patients. Due to wires down on the road, apparatus had to operate off road. 111 Terrace Dr

At about 0700 hours, Fairmount along with mutual aid were alerted to 111 Terrace Dr for the reported house fire. The homeowner called stating there was smoke coming from his basement. Engine 7 went on scene and stretched a crosslay due to Car 1 reporting heavy smoke in the residence. As Engine 7's crew checked the basement, Taunton Ladder 5 hit a hydrant and secured utilities. Upon investigation, the interior crew found a melted appliance in the basement. Fairmount Truck 1 assisted in ventilating the structure. Car 1 held the assignment to Fairmount Engine 7, Truck 1 and Taunton Ladder 5.
